Philolaus the Crotonian (470 BC - 385 BC), originally from Croton or Taranto in Lower Italy, was a contemporary of Socrates and is considered the founder of the theory of "numbers" of the Pythagorean philosophers.
Pythagorean Philolaus was later a Master and follower of the Pythagorean fraternity. According to Aetius, Philolaus claimed that the Earth is not in the center of the (global) Universe, where he placed, like all Pythagoreans, the "Central Fire"

From his system we see the deletion of those elements (central fire, Antichthon) whose existence is attributed to general metaphysical beliefs while the idea of moving and / or rotating earth is not completely rejected (some members of the Pythagorean School continue to advocate based on the idea of moving earth, assuming that a certain kind of earth movement was enough to explain -at least qualitatively- the basic celestial phenomena).
Gradually the need arises to search for new geometric models - which will arise by mathematical calculations and not by simple observations - which will not only be able to reproduce the qualitative characteristics of the apparent orbits of the planets but will also be able to serve to calculate the position. of a planet at a given time.
n Greek antiquity the Pythagorean philosophers and especially Philolaus, as Aristotle mentions in his book "about heaven", believed that the Sun, the Moon, and the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Zeus and Saturn, within the sphere of They were simply moving around a central point of fire, which they called the Central Fire or Home of the Universe, but which was not visible. But because the numbers were at the same time the only true realities, for the Pythagoreans, images of numbers were also different bodies, but also because the number 10 was a sacred number, for them, as a sum of the first four numbers (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 ) hence they believed that those moving around Estian should also be 10.
That is, there is another planet, similar to Earth, which traces the tenth orbit. This planet was called Antichthon (Antichthon) and the Pythagorean philosophers believed that it is in a position opposite to the Earth in relation to the Home of the Universe, as a result of which it is not visible.
However, the students of Philolaus, Ikitas and Ekfantos rejected these ideas about Antichthon. However, the ancients also called the southern hemisphere of our planet anti-hostile, approximately in the current sense of "antipode" (the ends of the earth's diameter).
We now know nine planets in our solar system, of which the three Uranus, Poseidon and Pluto are invisible to the naked eye. The Pythagoreans, however, spoke of ten: Zeus, Mars, Mercury, Earth, Aphrodite, Saturn, Pluto, Uranus, Poseidon and Antichthon.
Antichthon is described as a planet that moves in the same orbit as the Earth at the same speed, but at the other end of the diameter Earth-Sun and therefore never appears, is always behind the Sun. Anti-chthon, Anti-Earth, because chthon = Earth!
